I'm starting to plan next years gardens, looking for feed-back.

That's it! Like other people who commented, I got these by accident. I was supposed to get black cherry tomatoes. I have no regrets though and Baker Creek sent me new seeds after I called.

I have grown 2 of these: Stupice and Yellow Pear.

Your climate is quite a bit different from mine (my son now lives in western Pennsylvania - Loretto :))

DW called my Stupice, my "stupid tomato" :/. Reason was, every fruit off those plants was oddly shaped . . . over a very long season. And, to think that she was comfortable teasing me about Stupice after I tried to grow Yellow Pear over 4 seasons for her!

Here is the climate difference -- During the 4th and final season, I doubt that there was more than a handful of Yellow Pear that didn't crack. That was the end of my efforts on that variety. I have grown Ildi for the last 4 years and have been happy with that little yellow tomato.

Cats...My climate is very different from yours so I can't really comment.

I did grow Stupice this year and like Digits wife I also am calling it stupid! It was small and flavorless. Needless to say I won't be growing this tomatoe again. But it was supposed to do well in my area so I decided to try it.

I grew Cherokee purples and black krims this year (among others) and I preferred the black krims myself. The flavor is good on cherokee purples, but I thought the black krims were even better! Also, Cherokee purples are prone to cracking... But if you just want them to feed to the chickens, I'm sure they won't mind! :D
 
I grew pink ponderosa from bakers creek...very nice big tomatoes. And this is coming from someone who despises the smell and taste of raw tomatoes. Made awesome sauce with them. I just pick 10 more today and there are a bunch of green ones still.

I'm sure that people order from Gurneys. "Who Owns What" tells us that they are part of the Gardens Alive conglomerate. That corporation must be making $$.

I was upset with Gurneys quite a few years ago. I don't remember why but it seems like it was what I thought was poor performance for a product. It was probably my own fault.

One thing I didn't realize back then is that these catalog companies don't usually raise their own seed - large wholesale outfits do that. They own the patents and the parents of the hybrids.

There might be differences between packaging and storage of the seed and that may make a difference in our gardens but that would be about it. If I bought Early Girl tomato seed from any one of a hundred different sources, the seed should be all about the same.

. . . just suspect that's true and hope that Cats Critters and Garden is okay with drifting off topic here.
