Is it too early to plant beets and peas?

Of course the soil is likely to be warming over the course of a month but you could sow the 1st time, wait 2 weeks and sow again -- and have both plantings show up on the same calendar day!

Last year I planted quick-maturing cabbage plants two weeks earlier than a later-maturing variety. They all were ready at the same time. Things seldom work out exactly as planned.

Most of the things on my list I would cover in case of a predicted heavy frost, especially when they are just sprouting. I got a bunch of sheets at a thrift store really inexpensively. With some rocks to hold down the corners, they work great.

I've planted beets 2 weeks ago... inside. I plan on planting them outside in Washington in mid march. I find putting seeds into the soggy soil just north of soil results in things finding and eating the seeds before they germinate... or the seeds rotting in a flooded puddle. I'll start the peas 2 weeks before I go home.

I planted "English" peas this past weekend. New planters with some of my compost and garden soil. It was a little soggy, but drained quickly in the pots.

I also planted turnips and mustard seed in a 4 x 8 bed. It was workable and the weather is nice. I plan on pulling them for greens.

I'm putting in the beets this weekend. Can't hurt, its been 60 degrees or better for a few days. It still gets frosty at night, but warms up quickly. I think peas and beets and greens can stand a little frost, it's the germination that might take a while.

I planted mine about two weeks ago and I am barely seeing the emergence of seedlings. I planted lettuce, beets, and peas.

Thanks for the welcome, replies and good advice all! BTW, I didn't plant yet, but will in the next few day, peas mostly..

I always use Valentines Day as my date to start planting peas and potatoes so that I can have new potatoes and peas for Easter. According to the UGA planting chart, it is actually getting late for English peas. It gets too hot too fast for peas to produce well if I wait until the end of Feb.
