I've never had them touch my squash. Or my herbs either now that I think of it. Nor potatoes.
Weirdest thing I ever saw them eat was the tips off of the prunings from my apple trees that I had piled up to burn. Ate every last bud! But not the ones ON the trees? :/
I hate when they take a nibble out of my little developing watermelons. They don't eat the vine though.
