Itchy Butt (Dog)

A good friend who lives in NYC is the most irresponsible person I know. Every couple of years he brings up wanting a dog. Rather then hurt his feeling all I have to say is You know you have to pick up their poop. Doesn't bring up wanting a dog again.
 
:gig That's a great deterrent! If I had to pick up poop for the life of the dog, I'd not want one either. Ick. I'm so very glad this pup finally learned where to deliver his load, as scooping up that stuff was a nasty chore. Even worse would be those little baggies one puts their hand in and picks up the poop with the hand...the texture, warmth and smell sensations all at once would just be NASTY. :sick
 
It sounds a lot worse than it is. Not my favorite thing to do, but not disgusting.
We got the drainage tubes taken out today, a few days early, but I wanted the doc to check her out anyway, to make sure she was healing ok. Glad to get those tubes out. She has a little more healing to do, then we can take the cone off.
She gets very anxious when she can't scratch what itches. I can only imagine how that would feel.

Haha, I should have done that with Penny. Except, it would be a frosted glass. I suspect the folks who drive by when we are out walking think she is in costume.
She has perfected the art of sniffing the ground while wearing a cone. She sniff, then jerks her head up quickly and flips leaves, gravel or grass clippings up in the air as she trots along. Pretty amusing to watch her.
 
@so lucky - I went on vaca and left a dog with a sensitive system in the care of a person who is .... somewhat logic deprived.
He is super sensitive to most commercial dog foods, an additive sends him into seizures. Anyway, the ONE food that I've found that doesn't do that to him - gives him mild diarrhea. For a while I figured it was the lessor of two evils. As long as it was just soft, and outside, no big problem. But, I was trying to help him and had started him on some digestive enzymes - which are a yummy little soft treat.
Well, when I left, he stopped eating his food.. but he was still happy to scarf down the enzymes. So for a week he was eating nothing but 'treats' that were revving his system in to turbo-charged digestion. By the time I came home he was painful, skinny, still not eating, etc.
I started him on a bland diet, and some meds but it's just a waiting game for the lining of his stomach and intestines to heal. For a LONG time I was waking up to the sound of splattering on the bedroom carpet... :sick ... every 2 hrs ... all night long... :hit
Now we've gotten to where he wakes my up about 2am and gets let out. If the weather is bad, I wait for him. But if it's not bad, he's out and I'm back in bed till the alarm goes off at 4.
 
Maybe feed him a little buttermilk each day to help replenish his good intestinal flora and fauna? I got a dog a few years back that had been having diarrhea..the owner didn't know why... and a few days of buttermilk set him right up. Firmed up his stool and he was fine from there on. Constant diarrhea will strip the bowel of these digestive enzymes/bacteria and it can make it hard to get balance back to the guts.

Some people are helping such dogs by fermenting their dog feed and have found that this move also took care of skin and coat issues. I've never tried it, though I currently have a pup that keeps sneaking into the coop and eating my fermented chicken feed. :rolleyes: Going to break him of that....
 
I have liquid Tylan.. wonder if the powder is something I can get online? Or is it strictly Rx?
