I bought some from gurneys , had berries and yes they lived up to the hype, I saw on an old thred some said they didnt. Im here to say yes very very good, Im a new member but been a gardener a long time
One of the problems with talking about varieties is that we all have our own microclimates, mine can be different to a neighbor a quarter mole down the road. It can make a difference if I plant something in a low spot where it stays wetter as opposed on a hill with better drainage. With anything like that there will be some trial and error in what works for us and what doesn't. Glad yours worked out.
Welcome, glad you are here. I have never had good luck with blueberry bushes. Currently we have 5, we barely get anything from them. Think I need to study up a little more about them to try and increase the harvest. Maybe you can give me some tips that I can try.
Thanks Nyboy and everyone.I grow a lot of stuff. Mostly edibles now. If you name something you like more than likely I have it or kept it. Yeah I agree Ridgerunner. I was merely talking about the flavor of the blueberries. It is incredible is all I can say.Nothing like a regular blueberry! "Pink lemonade" is another wonderful variety for blueberry affectionados. i only have about a dozen varieties and probably wont expand because of these two.Collector maybe get a soil test and make sure it has good acidity and well drained. Our soil is terrible here. Mainly sand. As for fertilizer (for all my plants as well) I swear by miracle grow. Hope this helps you.
yes, they need very acidic soil, reasonable drainage, plenty of organic matter. places down south in FL use primarily bark chips. and of course in the heat they need regular watering to keep the berries from being too seedy/small.
we've not grown them here at this place, but the small growth habit wild types are common in many local areas. birds spread them easily. everything likes to eat them. i do too.
p.w. welcome Shawn! friendly bunch of people here.
Thanks flower bug, i made sure to include my area after what Ridgerunner said. I have a friend that lives an hour north of me and his Kablooey is about 4x4.Mine is just a dinker at 2 feet. But the dozen berries I got first year were awesome. I'm always very wary of promises of amazing tastes on plants but this one lived up to the hype all the way.Tropical in taste, totally different than a good blueberry taste. I just had a friend bring me another "miracle fruit" or some call miracle berry plant. This one is the king of mind blowers! It has little red berries that effect your taste buds in ways you cant even imagine.Google it, The coolest thing is the effects only last about an hour (on the whole)but after you chew on one and then bite directly into a lemon you will swear it is sweet lemonade.it will make any fruit taste like that is the best you ever put in your mouth! I regularly freak people out with em lol!
