Lavendar from seed - Having trouble

Wow, every summer I have a bunch lavender seedlings growing around the garden. I do have several bushes, though.

You could try the old egg-carton way. They transplant well and are very low maintenance.

Sorry to resurrect this post, but...

I planted lavender seeds today, sandy, well draining soil and sprinkled it with a tiny bit of compost (read...tiny!!!!). I gave it a good watering, but not even near a soak. THey should get about 6-8 hours of direct sunlight. With all of the attention paid here on not overwatering, what is a good guide to watering? Every other day? How should I gauge this?:/
