I don't know about the heat in Texas, but here in Kansas where it is very hot and humid all summer, my lovage thrives. It is about 3 feet tall in my garden and I planted it three years ago.
It is in an area where the ground stays pretty moist and is on the north shaded side of the house. I keep it well mulched with hay year round.
