Magnolias are so backwards

I have a Magnolia Jane, a northern hybred that can handle a Michigan winter, which is why I wanted it.
That pink one looks like a northern hybred, bc the southern, native ones aren't pink.
Any idea?
Anyway, of COURSE, they flower first, and mine sometimes partially flowers again in the summer.

It looks like a Chinese magnolia to me. That may be what you are talking about though. Everyone I know calls them tulip trees because the blooms look similar.

I took a pic of this beautiful magnolia tree bloom today! This is my favorite tree flower! People around here call them "tulip trees."
