Thanks for the response...Best I can find says that the flies are attracted to the sweet smelling nectar from the flowers. It's odd I haven't had any problems with flies around my mints.

I don't have flies in my mint ... and I have LOT. I think all the flies are on the back porch trying to get into the house. To join the other 486 flies that are already in the house
As for the mint, cut the blooms (just remember the bees and butterflies love that mint too)
