Ahhh... came in late last night, exhausted. Got car fixed, electrical problems decided to crop up and short out, just lucky it didn't catch fire. Also lucky it wasn't crazy money to get it fixed. $534 and I was on my way. Grateful for that.
I rented a drum sander, sanded the floors and it raised the grain something terrible on some boards. They looked hairy. At least it smoothed out the difference of board height. Some just didn't fit together smoothly. I went back and rented an edge sander and it was an instrument of torture. Only 14" tall, heavy and fast. No handle. Who the devil invented this thing anyway? It was too short for me to bend over to use it, no way to crawl around on my wore out knees, and it was a speed demon, so butt scooting along with it was out of the question. So scrap that idea.
I wound up fine sanding the floor with a Rubbermaid floor cleaner, the kind you put a disposable pad on. I duct taped sandpaper to it and rubbed down the entire floor. I shop vac'd the floor and started applying the white stain. I used a roller to apply and used the Rubbermaid floor cleaner with one of those pads duct taped on it to spread and rub the stain in. The guy at the paint store said pine would be splotchy and it was. Overall, I think it will look like a country farm house when I finish it with the polyurethane. I plan on going back Monday night, spend night at DD's and hit it early Tuesday morning, allow 3-4 hours between coats, and put 3 polyurethane coats on the floor, shut the door and come home to pack.
We hired 2 neighbors to put up a small fenced in area and they have been busy clearing a path for the fence. Cutting trees and brush, briars and making way for the fence to go through.
