Need Help--avacado seed

I started one about 6 years ago in a vase in the window. It grew great, I planted it in a pot and got a tree about 7 feet tall. We decided to plant it in the pasture because it was getting too big for the pot, and it was dead in two days. :/

I've been trying to get another one going ever since and havent been able to! That window at the old house must have been radiating magic,lol.

The trick I used with my seed was... it was already cracked and starting to sprout when I was eating the avacado! I cheated.
