Another history lesson: Pasties (you have to say it correctly or it's entirely different) were carried by the Wisconsin lead miners to work each day. Most of these miners were Cornish or of Cornish descent, hence they are originally "Cornish Pasties". Since many of these miners dug into the sides of a hill to make their homes, they were also called badgers. It was the lead mining area and its miners that gave Wisconsin the nickname The Badger State, not the animal.

We make them with lots of potatoes, a bit of meat (hamburger for us) and plenty of onions. Other veggies might be added as they were available. We used ready made pie crust -- half per pasty -- in school, but I've done the pie crust myself at home.

[PAST ease] not [PASTE ease]. Don't bother to question how I know or how many times I made the same mistake before I got it right. Just be thankful my fourth graders either were poor listeners, or very innocent.
