new yorker tomato

My NYers have a tiny tomato or two also!

I grew 6 plants, 2 I gave away, 2 I planted out and they're looking really good, flowering but no tomatoes yet. The 2 spares are sitting in the greenhouse, they've dried out a couple of times but these two have a couple of small tomatoes on them, so I took pity on them today and planted them in a big tub. I'll leave them in the greenhouse and see how they do.

Yes! Our season is so short that the earlier they set the sooner they can ripen. I never get a ripe tomato until sometime in August.

My two plants are the most vigorous in the garden. Many fruit and blooms. I didn't count exactly, but I'd say about 15 maters on each plant so far. I tried to get a pic but it involved standing on my head around sharp objects, so, no.

This. The rest of mine are indeterminate, so take much longer to mature and will bear much longer than a determinate, so right now the NYers are the earliest but it's their nature.

It makes more sense for me to plant mostly determinate. I always have so many green ones when frosty days roll in in September. I don't know why this hasn't occurred to me before. Duh.

Is there a prize for being last to get them in pots/ground? I finally got this sad plant into a large pot on the deck yesterday!
