Ok I am 99% sure that these are both basil.. I have planted soooo many seeds..

But one is smooth and one is hairy.. They are both labeled sweet basil.. someone help..

I have gotten seeds from all over the country.. (kinda neat) so is one not a sweet basil? If not what is it?

and is this dill?

Have you tried crushing/squeezing a leaf and smelling it? If it's basil you should be able to tell. :D

Goodness--why didn't I think of that, bid? Great idea. As for the other, it could be dill or carrots. I did grow a fuzzy basil once, but I can't remember the flavor...

Really a little bit strange, but i'm not sure i have seen this kind somewhere before

The one on the right is for sure basil. The hairy round-leaved one on the left, I've never seen a basil look like that. Can't rule out the possibility there is some weird basil of such a sort -- as others have said, scratch and sniff will tell you :)

The bottom one could be dill, carrots, or anything else of that family. I don't know whether seedlings that young would have a dilly smell, you may just have to see what happens through time unless you happen to be sure you only planted one member of the carrot family :P

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

Dill it is.. I direct sowed my carrots..
hoping that I can squeeze in one more season.. :fl doubt it but if nothing grows I will plant something else. :)

off to crush some little leaves.. LOL

dont know aboutthe basil but the other looks like flat leaf parsley try another scratch and snif

from my other post.. I did plant some of this.. but I dont remember planting this much.. so .. I will let it grow.. somewhere :hu and then see what it turns into.. but it is NOT basil. smelled nothing like it.. but on a good note I did plant those little basils with my grapes .. they are companion plants :thumbsup

Your false Basil looks like a succulent version of Oregano. My Cuban Oregano, although much older and variegated, has that same 'hairiness'.

You said you rubbed the leaf? Did it smell sort of like Oregano.

Here is a link to Cuban Oregano:

The other looks like dill, but again, it also looks like carrots, :/

I think I must have planted my herbs same time as you. Your furry non-basil looks an awful lot like my clary sage, oregano and marjoram. Could it be any of those?
