One Alaskans greenhouse

I think we’ll make it without cucumber withdrawals! The bathtub cukes will be edible before we’ve eaten that dozen or so taken when the greenhouse was shut down!

It’s time to start feeding the birds and 3 hours after hanging this neck section i had 3 Magpies show up. I’ve had them arrive within 20 min before but this year i’ve not seen the first one; they have an uncanny nature when it comes to finding a meal.
My desire is to feed the little guys and they get there’s but the bigger birds always seem to run the show. I save all the rib sections and replace them when they get too thin; always trying to keep something on the table for them till spring! This year i’m putting up a total of 3 sides so the birds are in for a treat. These next two sides are Yak too; pretty exotic bird feed.

Probably peculiar to some but it makes me feel good to keep an eye on the little guys!

August 19th starts were potted, this afternoon i’ll take the first one! Roughly 70 days, but well worth the effort. I realize; i wont win any prize for my shoddy record keeping, but hey; i’ll take a trophy cuke any day And for many days to come.

Yes they are. Here’s the first one and all this cucumber talk got me to thinking so i looked back at that group i picked when closing the greenhouse and realized; they kept for nearly a month in the fridge!! Best we’ve ever done with store bought cukes was around 2 weeks at most.
As with most thing’s, diet is the key. In the case of my cukes they’re on a strict diet of fermented rabbit urine, black strap molasses and liquid kelp! Once a week a half oz in a 5 liter watering can! Ironically most people don’t understand that the Light is actually the food, the additional nutrients are there for the microbes sake.🤓 It’s all part of the Organic philosophy “feed the soil, not the plant”!

My poor willow couldnt hold up all the ice.😕 This is the worst but i’ve got others around the property that will be ugly in the spring.

However after plowing with a wheeler all those years, im liking a truck plow pretty well. Warm, dry, great visibility and with chains all around and 4wd; it’s kinda like a tractor!

I keep asking Ruthy if she’d like to go on a plow date with me, she’s not as enthusiastic about all that as i am.
