70 new Comfrey plants in my “Bedouin hardening tent”.

The sequence.
A 2 1/2 gallon pail of amendments are broadcast on each bed before double tilling with the Mantis. Bed is trowled smooth with a cement trowel then lightly tamped to firm soil before using a Dibble board to make the perfectly spaced holes for set Onions. Once each hole is loaded the drip manifold for that bed is connected to the main line. After viewing a test run to make sure the drippers are working i cover the bed with an insect screen to keep out any of the root maggot flies we have some years.

In a couple more days, i’ll be eating my own cukes again.
And a nice Celery “orphan” i potted up for our Pastors wife! I told him not to count on that alone for Mothers Day, probably should still include some Chocolate.

The beginnings of a new Top Bar Hive! This will be a double wall, insulated hive once completed.

First Asparagus coming up!

And at this point we are eating our own Green Beans, Celery, Parsley, Swiss Chard, Summer squash, Cucumbers, Lettuce and soon Cilantro!

First Compost turn for the year, 47min; with a fork! There’s a lot of it this year.

I was just thinking of you about 30 min ago, while my casserole bakes.

That is AMAZING compost!!

I hope they were good thoughts? It’s a lot of work but the Compost is very important to me and i’ll keep up the effort as long as i can. May have to hire a kid someday as the spring transition is getting exhausting!

The new hive’s coming along. The insulations in and the outer shell is on the bottom. Now im working on the lid and waiting for 2 large wool batts that will insulate the roof section.

The top bars are ready and some of the divider sections are done. I’m going all out on this project and bought a bluetooth unit that will be mounted inside the hive and transmit temp, relative humidity and barometric pressure to my phone! And hopefully teach me a few things about life inside a bee hive at 15 below zero. (occasionally)
