I don't think they get that hot. I've looked and haven't seen any signs of melting in the box, but last year I put foil down first, crumpled, so the bulbs were elevated just in case.

Thistle, there isn't any chance of those bulbs touching the plastic bulbs and catching on fire? That's what I'm afraid of.

If you use the fancy Aquarium light hoods, then yes. They can even shatter glass they get that hot! That's why they come with 4in legs and some come with a little fan!

Shop lights can't and won't get that hot.

But as for seed/plant indoor grow bulbs. Not too sure. The one hood I have, I can't touch the case, too hot. That one may burn plastic, it came with a frame and string to keep it hung. Where as the shop light hoods are very warm, but handle-able.

here's one of my setups.

I have a heating mat I can slide in and out from my left, 4 T5s at a 6000 color temp, around the whole unit I have some reflective bubble wrap and then a single fan.
