Last year we did the potato cages, they were a total failure this year we planted and hilled them the standard way and got a pretty good harvest I think. We have Red Pontiacs? I think and, yukon golds

Yay, Collector!

Yes, I have trouble keeping container plants going. Planting potatoes in a "container" - even one without a bottom - would just too likely backfire on me. Potatoes have too high of water and nutrient needs and there are other things that could go wrong . . .

Good potatoes are worth the dig!

I planted red potatoes in beds and in pots this spring. While the pots didn't yield what the regular dirt beds did, I will plant even more pots this coming spring. I am limited in space and the pots increased my harvest.

I am happy with the amount we dug up, Maybe the yukons needed to grow a little longer but what the hay. I know some people have good luck growing them in containers and bags, I have watched it on you tube. I had terrible results with the cages so planting in ground from now on. Heres a pic of a couple of them.
