Potted Citronella Plants

Just like with Mint magically repelling mice, you need the oil, refreshed often, to work. The plant just being there does nothing. Rubbing the plant on the wall does nothing. Rubbing on yourself for bugs, yes, but just out growing in the yard, no.

I had read somewhere that the leaves would need to be brushed or rubbed to allow the oils to emit the aroma. That is what repels. So if its a little windy and the leaves rub together than you would have less mugs flying nearby.

Home Depot has potted citronella plants. The plant label claim plants repell mosquitoes. Has anyone grown this plant?
In the Philippines, citronella production is still in its infancy. There are only about 20 hectares of land planted in Leyte.
