I finally have some green tomatoes. I have been waiting to make fired green tomatoes. I just checked don't have cornmeal, but I did find a box of something call corn starch ( have no idea where it came from) can I use that in place of cornmeal? Or should I get dressed brave the heat and go to supermarket

Corn starch is a thickner. It is very finally ground corn meal.

Corn meal is the whole kernel ground except for the germ. The starch is the soft starch seperated from the kernel. Kernel has soft and hard starch-the hard starch goes to taco shells, chips, flakes, etc...

I believe you could have used it although wouldn't add the texture or flavor you would want. Although you are making fried, green tomatoes.......yuck.

You don't want to use corn starch. That's a thickener.
And by all means, please get dressed.
Second the getting dressed.....really didn't need that image in my head. Way toooooo much info..
