I believe in hunting for the table 100%. Trophy hunting killing just for head or skin I feel different. I had a mason do some work on my chinney, he just stop by to be paid. He asked if I deer hunted, when I said no he told me he saw a mulpti pointed( don't remember how many) buck in my woods. He said he went into the woods and found deer trails all over. He asked premission to hunt the buck.I asked his favrite way to cook venison, he rattled on for 5 mins how. Do people really eat wild older males, I know with wild hogs you don't. As much as I hate the deer taking of a life just for antlers doesn't seem right.

Yes, we eat the bucks and they turn out just fine if a person knows how to handle the scent glands and meat, keeping them completely separate during the skinning and gutting process.

If you feel uncomfortable at all about him hunting your land, just say you'd prefer he not do so, especially if he's hunting close to the house. IME, most conscientious hunters already have their hunting areas scouted and set up for their hunting well before hunting season ever begins and will stick to that plan because they've spent time planning for it, scouting trails, food plots, bedding areas, rubs and scrapes.

When someone spots a big buck and wants to immediately rush into your land to go and get him, I'd see that as a red flag....bucks are running for the rut right now and can go miles out of their normal range when chasing does in heat, so there's no guarantee that buck will even still be on your land tomorrow. A good hunter would know that.

I have a neighbor who has the exclusive rights to hunt my land. I keep him posted on things like when and where I'm seeing deer. He lets me know which tree stand he's planning to use so I can move the cows if needed. I KNOW that he's careful and safe and respectful of the property.
It works out GREAT for both of us. By watching their movements all year, I can pretty much guarantee that he's going to get at least a couple each season. He knows all the local guys and has run a few of them off the property over the years (he's not willing to share his spot!) Plus, I get a tenderloin or two every year.

@Nyboy I would also be a little cautious of having a stranger 'turned loose' with a weapon.

Oh yeah, we do. If you know how to cook it, you can make it tender. I pressure can a lot of my deer meat, but it's especially good for tenderizing a big buck. Or cook it slow and low in lots of gravy. :drool Jerky is a good way to go too. And you can make it into ground meat of course. Or summer sausage! I'll save young deer for pan steaks or rump roasts. They are more tender. Still it's really important not to overcook. Don't go beyond medium well, gotta leave some pink. Hanging a deer for at least a week to age makes a big difference too. Most people don't like venison or think it's gamey because they've never had it done right. Even a feed lot steer is hung to age at least 2 weeks at the butcher.

My dad got an 8-point buck this morning! :celebrate Can't get 'em if you don't go. He's been really enjoying his retirement lately, now that he's feeling so much better. :)

My friend Dana called me very upset. She need to talk to me. She said for 10 years she has been seeing a psychic who is never wrong. Psychic has told Dana things no one could know. Dana was going on and on about how this woman is never wrong. She went to see her and the woman told Dana her dog was a rescue from a friend. I gave Dana her dog he was dumped by his family. Psychic told Dana she must warn me I was about to be killed. I was shocked.Psychic said I would be killed deep in the woods by a young man who had a large gun collection. Dana was very scared and really believed it was going to happen. I told her don't worry I am not the woodie type. I never go deep in any woods. This was 3 years ago

I think that is reason enough for you to never go hunting.

Here's the deal. Go to a shaman. Tell him or her about this fortune teller's story.

Some of the shamans are the nicest people. It's probably better than 50%. They are trying to help. They aren't even all scary people. Nice people can be kind of scary even if they try not to be.

Notice that I am not defining the ethnic group. Ask around. Maybe Dana knows one.
