Just a word for information... one shouldn't cut the rhubarb stem, one should get a good hold of the intended to harvest stem and pull it straight up/ out from the plant. :weight This allows the plant to heal faster. :ya We have 10 rhubarb plants and I have harvested 3 full crops already from each plant and my wife has been making crisps of all types and we bring quite a few of them to get togethers at work, family, friends, and neighbors. BIG hit with everyone. :drool

I LOVE rhubarb! Seriously its one of my favorite things.

My MIL was kind enough to share her rhubarb jam recipe with us so we have to get even more since we got the recipe. We save some for pies, (no don't add strawberries either just straight up rhubarb pie) and we'll make some into crisp too. Nothing like homemade vanilla ice cream slowly melting on a warm piece of rhubarb crisp. :drool

And when that's gone I'll take rhubarb jam and warm it up just a touch to pour it over my vanilla ice cream. That's pretty darn good too. Its not as good as crisp but its better than having to wait another season.

This really seems to be true. It is the way Dad did it. I moved starts from his plants over the years - 3 different home . Have 5 plants at our current home.

I had do "better than Dad" so cut them until I realized that they didn't seem to benefit from that and the cut stalk took quite awhile to die away, leaving something of a mess around the plant.

Plant comes right back when I just pull the stalks. They stay healthy and altho' we are still working our way thru the 1st crop, take them all at once and they will be back with more.
