I have 8 rose bushes and they have black spot pretty bad. Today I fertilized them, then trimmed all bad leaves off and put into the burn pile. What is the next thing to do and the best regiment to follow to keep them healthy?

a folier spray of copper sulfate they have it at Blue Seal Lowes and Home Depot and Tractor supply in liquid spray form

Yep... I just found out my climber has BAD black spot. So I have to spray though I prefer not spraying. Its the cycle of roses! UGH!

'4acres, I am willing to spray ornamentals with a systemic pesticide. Zinnias are another that suffer from black spot. In some past years, it seemed like there was some kind of race by the end of the season to see whether the black spot would work its way to the top of the plants and kill the zinnias or the fall frost would kill them 1st. My fungicide didn't prove adequate altho' it seemed to do the job for the roses while only slowing the progression of the black spot on the zinnias.

Then, there was mildew . :barnie . . Still, I don't think zinnias came anywhere close to the problems the roses could have with aphids .

Last year, I tried Bayer insect-disease-mite for all the spraying of the ornamentals. I was pleased in how it turned out. You should know that Bayer has a "2-in-1," a "3-in-1," and an "all-in-one." Maybe someday I'll come around to the thinking that it makes sense to add fertilizer to a bug/disease spray. Anyway, I'll suggest forgetting the fertilizer in the mix if you go for the bug & disease combo.

I wonder if that's the weird black stuff I found on my roses yesterday? I'm gonna go check out some pictures and see if it's black spot

Here's something my mom swears by, and she lives in Black Spot Country.
Get yourself some curly parsley plants and plant one under each rose. I don't know the reason, but she says her roses were free of black spot all last season. Cheap and harmless.
