Severe garden damage

Monty said there was enough damage to the corn that he's concerned enough to replant and harvest in early October. The wind was awful as well as the hail. I could not believe it when he told me the wind bent those posts for the other beans. :ep :th

Two reasons I'm considering planting corn for a fall crop. First, 5% losses to me are unacceptable. Second, I LOVE fresh corn! Third, I've never tried it before and still have seed left. Fourth, I will have the space since I'm pulling the beans earlier than usual. OK, that's like four reasons, :P

Monty I'll say this again about your Winterfare beans. The plants are green, and still have plenty of leaf area on the plants so they are still living and functioning plants that are still feeding and maturing their pods with the seed inside. You'd be surprised what plants can get away with in adversity. Just let them grow and they will most likely reward you with wonderful seed.

I'm definitely leaving the Winterfare. I was talking about pulling the Blue Lake bush beans. I have all I can use. The Winterfare took a beating on the north side, but the south side of the trellis is still looking great. I'm watching for disease and insect pressure now as I think it may become an issue. I did some pruning to remove broken vines and get some better airflow. Don't worry Russ, I won't give up on the Winterfare ;)

We didn't get any of that storm the other night. Last minute it turned and went north they said. Sorry to see you had so much hail and wind damage, Monty and Dew. But things still look like they'll bounce back for you, other than your ill-fated corn. That's a heck of a tomato now!
