Smoke 'em if you got 'em, boys!

So envious of all the trees you all have. My yard is much to small for anymore threes. We have three hard Maples. 3 VERY big blue spruce and a 100+ box elder. (Giant) At the lot it is mostly bordered by walnut cottonwood, sugar maple, hedge apples and mulberry. DH has planted apples, pears, apricot, cherry, peach, almond, English walnut a hazelnut. Most are struggling. We do get apples and pears. But the stone fruit and nut trees are not doing well.

Thanks a lot @Smart Red now I'm on the hunt for one of those Eskimo sunset trees! It's gorgeous!!!!!

Was it one of those "gotta have" sudden purchases?

Jared, I went on a bus tour that took us to a several wholesale nurseries. Lucky I had my biggest wallet with me. Yes, that tree wouldn't let me leave it behind. In fact so many plants called out to me that I feared there wouldn't be room on the bus for the trip home. Of course, all the other gardeners on the tour had the same mind-set. It was a fun trip that I've never repeated for fear of breaking the bank.

The Rotary Gardens, where I took my Master Gardener class, runs this tour once each year. Only one bus runs and it is by sign-up only (no holding spaces). Signing up each year is a fierce competition. Some of the IN people go every year, but I know my weakness and haven't signed on for a few years now.

It allows us access to wholesalers that are not open for selling to the public otherwise. I think we toured 5-6 nurseries on our tour that year. It certainly was a blast; expensive but fun.

Jared77, I bought the tree from Klehms' Nursery in Avon, Wisconsin. They sell their products wholesale to garden centers and professionals, but also retail through their own Catalog "Song Sparrow Farm and Nursery".

Wow that would be a great trip. Thank you @Smart Red for the info. My expense would be hiring a moving van to serve as a chase car so I KNOW I could bring everything home!!!
