I use frozen fruits for winter smoothies or fresh fruits when in season like green apples have less sugar. oranges , pears, berries, mango, kiwi, strawberry , pineapple , blackberries, and blueberries. Add no sugar added yogurt , low sugar peanut butter, bananas, or pressed / rolled oats, avacado to thicken.. Adding differnt flavored non dairy milk like coconut milk, green almond or hazelnut milk made from fresh hazelnut nuts the squirrels don’t hog up… different ingredients for different folks. Also Carrot juice - fruit juices no sugars added. .Mix it up to fit your tastebuds. Just add variety. Several seasonal nuts are also ground in elec coffee grinder kept in freezer. Green protein powder and green super foods powder , matcha powder and or beet powder . I make them ahead of time 5-7 per week for breakfasts. No sugar and no chemicals.
This may sound a bit strange but I first learned about some of these ingredients from the veterinarian who advised to use carrot juice, pressed oats, beets , green apples for the horses to keep them for eating to much sugar. By washing the hay in water before feeding washes out the sugars. Grasses and hay is super sugars and finding other ways to feed the horses was important especially to prevent foundering. Bran and beet eet feed substitute for corn and oat feed. Founder is a deadly condition for horses.
