we've had enough hard frosts that no beans would be alive enough now and any fresh beans that might have been in those gardens would have frost damage which might be another thing that mildews or fungi might attack. pea pods might also be damaged and more succeptible to problems after harder frosts.

We have had a couple of frosts, not hard ones in the last week, so I think that is what got it all going.
