Vfem, she just turned 31, so sometimes it takes a while. I didn't start veggie gardening till about 2 years ago.

I just had as thought Mary, ( I know, scary... ) does your daughter know what manure smells like? Not being cheeky, but compost smells different than soil, and of course they both smell different than manure...anyway, I just wondered if maybe there was no cause for concern.

Thistle, I think she does. She has smelled my garden, soil, compost, and chicken poop! We've also taken many trips to the country where we got to smell the cows.

Too ... In Cal. , Tulare County alone has more cows than the whole state of Wisconsin. Average size is something like 4,000 cows. One new dairy alone now milks about 35,000 cows. :th

Ok, just because I'm curious.... I had to look it up. :p

the top 5 dairy states by cow population were:
1. Wisconsin (big surprise)
2. California (where I hear they're happy)
3. New York (this really did surprise me)
4. Pennsylvania
5. Minnesota

According to this website: www.nass.usda.gov
the top 5 beef cattle producing states were:
1. Texas
2. Kansas
3. Nebraska
4. California
5. Oklahoma

Florida is the top GROWING state for cattle.
