I have gone to the Roozengaarde tulip festival there a few times and it is just an incredible experience! I've never seen so many gorgeous flowers in one place!Dahlia,
Has Skagit Valley been on your itinerary ..
. during an early tulip season?

I completely missed your reply, Dahlia.Roozengaarde tulip festival there a few times and it is just an incredible experience!
My favorite spaces were the fields of tulips that covered multiple acres! I've never seen so many flowers in one place! If you have never been to Roozengaarde, stop in if you are nearby! It's a real treat!I completely missed your reply, Dahlia.
DW had a nurse and I mentioned to her that our odd name was Dutch. Her eyes opened wide and she started talking about the Dutch family and community there where she grew up. I was not expecting that and was somewhat lost in what she had to say but decided to continue by talking about DW's family to show that I wasn't ignoring the topic of "family." I coulda been talking about tulips because it may have been the reason they were in the US.
What I didn't want to tell her was that I really had no idea that my family name was of Dutch origin until I took a little interest in genealogy. What I learned was the Dutch guy was a shipbuilder upon his arrival in North America ... in the 1600's. Yes, he likely knew something about the tulips in the Netherlands but he arrived on an English ship. I have no idea how long he might have been in England before immigrating and, there are also folks with that surname living in Scotland. There weren't Washington State tulip farms when my Grootvader showed up in Virginia.
