I went to our local u-pick farm and got my strawberries, Enough for 3 batches of jam and more to enjoy fresh. I have 2 batches of jam in the cabinet and may freeze enough mashed berries to make another when we run out mid-winter.
Now I suppose you wonder why I used the word STOMPING in my subject line. Well... while I was waiting for the cart to take me back to the hut to pay for my pickings the attendent told me about a family that came to pick on the weekend. When they had all the berries they wanted. The parents set down the flat of berries and went back to get the flag and move it to where they had stopped picking. When they turned around they saw the daughter (about 2 years old) STOMPING the berries in the flat into wine pressings! :)
Oops. He thought it was funny , but said Mom and Dad were NOT at all happy. Ya, it might be funny MANY years from now when they telll the story to their Grands. LOL

Oh boy! Has anyone noticed the price of pectin this year? Just picked up some tonight- strawberry picking tomorrow. I thought it was like a dollar something a box last year. Tonight, almost four bucks a box! What! Need to check around and see if I can find it cheaper. I will go broke, if all my blackberries ripen!

I'm hoping the u-pick down the road from me will still be going early next week when I have the time to go. We went once in May and I only managed to pick a gallon and a half with the kids before they'd had enough and I had to give up. Oh Carol, I would have been laying face-down in the rows crying if my child had done that. LOL Just this stage of life, but it would be YEARS before I could find that funny. :p

We've also had endless rain here lately...like every other day...and the berries just aren't any good when there's been so much rain. So I'm waiting for a couple of dry days too. I should have just bought myself 4 gallons of what they had already picked, but I didn't want to pay the dollar extra on the pound. I may not get any strawberry jam this year, my luck. :/

Funny because it is someone else and their child! I can imagine it was not funny to them. But you are right...in many years, certainly!

They haven't even opened the U-pick berry places around me yet. I am quessing because of all the rain for the last 6 weeks. We are suppossed to have 3 days of sunshine in a row begining today, so hopefully soon! Enjoy all those berries and jam making. :D
