It was supposed to thunder here last night. We had rain and it's been humid, a bit like a hot bathroom but no thunder. Thankfully there's breeze now.
 
all parts weeded, leveled and ready for planting. i do a little light cultivating of the rows before planting so that i can get the seeds down far enough that they won't pop back out when watering. while this is still a pretty good garden with the soil quality better than most of the others it is still rather too firm to just dibble seeds in. i tried that in various gardens in the past and the bean plants grew very slow and struggled when it got too hot.

so tomorrow should be the end of bean seed planting inside the fence and i can move on to tasks outside the fence (weeding and planting one big garden along a pathway and then getting the north garden weeded and maybe planted too with beans. the deer have been coming through at times so i think that might be a lost cause but never know how it goes until i try. and then the bunnies are running around too...
 
after some thinking yesterday and tired enough i decided to not plant part of the garden i was working on yesterday - the back corner is very sandy and poor soil where the tulips are mostly gathered now - the tulips do well but the beans i often plant over then tend to not do much at all and there is a lot of weed pressure in that garden i want to be able to keep it scraped bare this summer and fall.

i also decided to not to plant the small onion garden either as it too has some persistent weeds i'l like to be able to keep after this summer and fall and scraping goes much quicker if i don't have to work around other plants. executive decisions which will both make it easier for me and already saved me time. that i was hot and tired may have also played some role in that... :)

with that done the gardens inside the fence are all planted (including the strawberry patch which doesn't have strawberries in it this year). feels good to have that done. :)

that i could have saved some time by scraping those gardens sooner rather than having to weed more later is annoying but that was how it went this spring and me trying to make progress on the pathway edge (which remains unfinished until i get back to it).

chances of rain for Tuesday night, and into the next days until Thursday morning but not sure any will hit the ground. good thing we have a well and hoses - i sure don't want those seedling sprouts to dry out and bake in this coming heat wave (mid to higher 80sF) for a few days.

with today also in the forecast for being warm and sunny i'm mowing early enough to not bake and then will go out and water a bit later to make sure everything stays moist enough to keep sprouting.
 
mowing got done, had to take a break to cool off.

only had one thistle plant along the edge where it used to be full of them so my mowing for those few years really did help. yes, i mowed it again (carefully not to mow anything else around there).

while i was over the other (north) ways i walked back to see if the bee keeper people had come and removed the carpeting and metal drum they'd left back there. i'd called before about them so it was supposed to be done. nope. so called them again. ... maybe they'll get it done?

there's a lot of thistles in and along that road that goes back and since i was already mowing i took some whacks at them to start getting them under some sort of control. that the farmers who use that road don't take care of it other than cutting some branches that fall across it is rather annoying. they have these huge tanks of herbicides going through there but can they spot treat the thistles? newp, and the landowner doesn't give a rip either, the prevailing winds take those seeds right into their fields, i could have left every one of them... i got quite a few but i didn't mow all of them - i would have liked to have had the energy and time and gas in the mower and gotten them all knocked back...

anyways, it was a beautiful day outside and it felt good to be warm outside and then to go back out a few minutes ago and get everything watered that needed it. a lot of bean sprouts coming up and the tomatoes are doing well so far. the peppers are struggling, they need some good rainwater, but they are doing better now that we've gotten some warmth and sunshine - they are still rather pale but showing more green than a few days ago.
 
A huge amount of weeds were ripped out. We filled one neighbours green bin completely and there's very little lspace eft in my green bun. After my friend jumped inside both bins to press everything down.

Around 2013-14. A guy gave me wild strawberries. I kept then in a growing basket and planted them when I moved here.

Due to an overbearing amount of weeds and having having chickens for years, I thought these strawberry plants had disappeared. Yesterday I was thrilled too have found them again.

the little wild strawberries can take over quite easily. they taste good if you can get them before the birds and rest of the critters.

My chickens took them off me before that's why I thought I had lost the plant.

After the majority of the weeds were removed yesterday I decided to order membrane and pegs. Now I can plant without the weeds choke my plants
 
Here's my strawberry plant. This little beauty is very old. As I was given this fr a gentleman that had this plant growing for countless years

Nancy had 3 little strawberries on her super last night
