poison ivy sure can be sneaky and nasty if you don't even know you've been exposed to it, but even if you've knowingly gotten into it and taken precautions you can still mess up.
i have a few spots on my wrist where i somehow missed scrubbing off the oils or it was on a shirt sleeve and i thought i'd changed the shirt or something.
i was doing the usual calamine lotion and trying not to scratch the crap out of it and thinking it might help to put a coat of liquid bandage over it to keep it from rubbing on my sleeves and causing more itching. very much the exact wrong thing to do.
this morning i had enough and tried to washing the liquid bandage off and trying to peel it off and otherwise making things even worse as now i'm leaking more fluids but it is at least an honest pain and not a horrible itch that i can't resolve. pain i can cope with a lot more. it's not bad at the moment as i did put some more calamine lotion.
did i mention the hair on my wrist i didn't shave off before putting on the liquid bandage... heh...

I have no experience with poison ivy. Poison oak is the western torment if one gets into it. And yet, I seemed to have moved far enuf inland/north(?) that I don't find it ...
Calamine lotion certainly came to be what we used in other climes.
Do you think an antihistamine cream (benadryl) would be of help?

it has hardly itched at all today once i got the liquid bandage stuff off - it hasn't really hurt either. a lot better for sure.
i have no experience with poison oak, but i have enough reactions to other things that grow here that i have to generally be careful of what i'm doing and wash up well when i'm coming in for breaks or at the end of the day. at this point it is easier for me to just assume that i'm going to react.

finished the big garden and can now get on to the rest of them which will be easier as they are smaller and not as bad. i've not taken this many buckets of weeds to the weed pile in a long time. i'm embarrassed by it, but glad to know that all those billions of purslane seeds will not be falling on that garden.

one smaller garden done yesterday and then bits of a previously weeded garden scraped to keep the weeds from getting going too much again. did not finish all of that as it is a rather large space and i was tired, but i can chip at it again a little at a time since it is mostly bare and easier to work on, but my main priority is still getting the last three gardens done (two inside the fences and the north garden which i've not touched for several months - it's a big mess).
today's job is the SE corner garden that has the peas, beans and peppers in there. can't hardly see the pepper plants - i don't even know if any peppers are on them. i hope i can get it done in one day so i can get on to the old-strawberry patch tomorrow. it has just beans in there and not many plants that i can see through the weeds.
at least now the rest of the gardens look much better along with the tomato plants being grown up and casting shade that also helps keep new weeds from getting going. still have to keep an eye on things as the weeds that Mom scraped off will easily resprout and need another scrape.
going to be another hot day here and so getting out early is how to survive and accomplish much at all. off we go...

during weeding i knocked a green pepper off a plant and so that was a snack with lunch. not fully developed but still edible enough for me.
as for a first, this was the first time i've found a tomato worm on a pepper plant - it was nearly full size. none of the tomato plants are showing any signs yet of tomato worms but i'll look at them again tomorrow morning more closely just in case.

Have you ever found worms inside your sweet peppers, FlowerBug?
It hasn't been often .... maybe nearly as seldom as finding tomato worms on the tomato plants. That probably hasn't occurred more than about once every 8-10 years.
I feel very fortunate about this

yes, i have, some plants that set fruit low so they sat on the ground. it hasn't been common, but it has happened.

took seven buckets of weeds out of the fenced SE corner garden and still have more to do, but should be able to finish it off in the morning.
i did make a nice dent in things this morning but was pretty tired and hot so took a lunch break and a nap and went out again later to see how much more i could get done. nice breeze helped but it was still too warm for finishing up so i listened to what my body was telling me and called it good enough for today.
chances of rain tomorrow afternoon and even hotter outside than today so i will again get out early and hope a few hours will be enough.
