stubbed toes and mud pies

yesterday, checked a few things out under the house and changed the air filter. looked for spiders but didn't see any. webs were there so they were hiding well or had eaten each other. mainly i was hunting for egg sacs and happy to not see any.

today is moving some bags of mulch and then i have appointment out so the nice weather will be admired as i drive a little.

going to be calling the well guy today.

when the hot water heater blew out the beginning of August it may have been the last straw for the well pump. there has been an issue for years of some water flowing back down into the well (some valve leaking) and now perhaps in combination it finally is just not working all that well any more period. at least we do have some water pressure now so it's not fried completely but if we need it to be replaced now is a good time to do it before the winter gets here...

our electricity bill has been running higher than normal and even with baking and canning taken into consideration it is still too much.

the other day i turned off the hot water heater for enough time to see if that made any difference in the amount of power being drawn and it didn't really make any difference and the only other things running are the refridgerator, a small fan, the well pump and my computer and all of those aside from the well pump and the hot water heater don't draw that much juice.

when i checked things under the house the other day it seemed like the well pump was running a lot more and not getting the water pressure high enough to turn off at the pressure switch which means it runs a lot and that is likely also related to the other problem we have with the cold water being warm...

we'll see what this is going to cost but there might be complications (of course) with the propane tank being where it is or ... the weather is warm enough that we don't need the heat but i don't know that we can run a truck back there with that propane line being buried anyways.

well guy might be able to get out here today, but it is ok if he can do it tomorrow as we do still have some water pressure. he said it was probably some issue with the line that comes up from the pump and that he will figure something out or be able to pull the pump by hand as it might not be down too far. we'll see...

just came in after weeding the north garden and putzing around. perfect day out there.

well is fixed, we have cold water again, $150. which is much much less than a new well pump. it was a rubber seal that had broken and was leaking, he had a replacement with him. hopefully this is it for a while...
