stubbed toes and mud pies

i knew we had another killdeer nest out back inside or outside the fence, but i'd not yet found it until yesterday when i went to work on the onion patch and hoped to get the peas planted. the nest is only a few feet from the onion patch.

at first the killdeer Mom did the usual sqwawk and flutter the wings to try to decoy me into chasing her (which never works). i just calmly worked on the onion patch sitting on my ground pillow and moving only a little bit. after about 15 minutes she came back to stand over her eggs and was looking at me but at least she wasn't sqwawking any more.
Well let's be honest 🤔
Only chatting with you online for the past almost six years. Tells me that you're hardly the big bad wolf.

Never heard of a kill deer bird before
i talked to her a bit as i was weeding. she didn't talk back and she didn't make a peep when i left.

i didn't get the whole thing done and no peas got planted but maybe i'll finish that today or not. not sure until it happens these days. chances of rain and pretty warm today (this afternoon) until Tuesday.

Here is a baby killdeer, @Marie2020 . A plover ... about the same coloring for the adult and the same crazy legs :D.

Here is an American robin. It's a thrush.

A little bit of a contrast with the European robin, a finch.

Steve, hoping it was okay with FlowerBug to insert these and he would be completely willing to delete.

It's still giving me that warning message. And it just won't load up to let me in 😞

my browser (mozilla firefox) just lets me go past a warning message like that... I'll send a note to the hosting company to see what's going on and maybe they can fix it. i have a file that says it should be rewriting all requests and letting them go through, but perhaps something isn't working with that.

ok, try it again. should be fixed... :)

🫶 Super!

I have never had that good of a relationship with a wild bird. An exception might be the Robin that shows up in the yard this year. Once, he was very interested in collecting bugs, worms and nesting material.

Fairly sure that it was a . We were both busy out there. He left, flew back immediately and landed within about 3-4 feet from me. I was carrying bricks. I stopped and thought that I am too close to him. He looked at me, hopped about 18" behind a rose bush and I set the bricks down :D.

as i've mentioned before i also talk to the crows if they are around and while they won't come close to me they don't seem too agitated.
