The 2014 Little Easy Bean Network - Get New Beans On The Cheap

I was pleased to find that two of the three Cape Sugar #2 seeds are up!

So far, only 2 of the 6 Solwezi beans have emerged, and this one looks like someone took a big bite out of it!

The two kinds of beans I got from Bluejay have had 100% germination, I believe, and seem to be growing well. A few holes in the leaves, but nothing to be alarmed about.

Even if only one bean were to grow and produce seed that I had sent out it will be a great success. I have been saying right along. Much of this seed looked dark and could only imagine how old the seed could have been. Some varieties will germinate very well. Some will germinate a little bit of the seed, and some not at all.

The fellow who sent this seed has monkey problems. They are intelligent enough to know to pick the pods off the plants. This fellow told me one year the monkeys just kept stripping the pods off the plants and left nothing for seed. They got it all. It was a monkey banquet.

well all the beans that I have planted are full of beans!! some of the bush beans needed to be staked up do to the weight. I am excited. the English peas were fairly generous I got enough from 2 small planters for 4 meals!! Learning one day at a time!!!:thumbsup

We all learn one day at a time! Great on the English peas!

I'd hate to have monkey problems!

Speaking of bunnies here is one of my bunny fences. 2 foot high plastic latice screwed to some short 1x2 inch stakes. It works too. I had bunny banquets last year and this time I said enough.

Now here is those litle tomatoes just a little over 2 month later. Marshall should like these beans in front of the tamaters. Almost a 40 foot row of Shortwave Sunshine. After everything gets more mature and tougher sometime in July. I'll remove my bunny fencing, and those critters won't be interested in this stuff anymore. They want to eat the tender stuff.

Potato Leafed With Early Green Fruit.JPG

Even getting some little tomatoes to form already. I think this is the earliest I've gotten little green fruits. Usually not until about the middle of July. These tomatoes are the third generation removed after I saved seed from Early Girl hybrid tomatoes three years ago. Who would have known the Early Girl tomatoes contained the genes of a potato leafed plant. You can see my grass clipping mulch here too we've talked about before.
