There is a lot to horse genetics, probably because they are domestic livestock. Wikipedia has some information on the colors that I had not seen before. Of course, they would be open to editing but I'm sure that I don't know about colors!

Dark Liver Chestnut might do it ...

A friend was recently telling me about a canoe trip he took down the Little Spokane. That really is a little river. He said around the very first bend he and his companion came on a bull moose standing in the river. Now, that would have been a scary event!!

I was imagining not only his size, horns but his color. I picked up a bottle of a real dark honey off the counter but decided that it wasn't quite brown enough.

I suppose that an individuals color would also be affected by their condition. I've seen some cow moose that were a dishwater blonde, but that was more towards spring and they could have been carrying a heavy tick load.

In the fall when they come through, the adults are dark and glossy.

Looked out the door this morning and saw Old Ma Moose tiptoeing through the snow, saying Hey! to the horses.

Her kid joined her shortly.

That arrow thing is a garden ornament in my buried blueberry barrels. Pretty cleverly situated to draw your attention to that well fed moose belly.

I opened the door to say good morning and they moved off. Probably offended at my lack of hospitality at not providing an easily accessible alfalfa stack this year.
