(1) Avoid fertilizing during blooming period.
Fertilizing during blooming period , especially with nitrogen fertilizer, will lead to
vegetative growth. As a result, flower organs get reduced nourishment on average and flower development is suppressed. Blooming period will also be delayed.Whats more. it can also make flowers withered early and shorten the blooming period.

(2) Avoid fertilizing in rainy days and nights.
In rainy days and nights, the temperature is low and capability of leaf transpiration as well as capability of root absorption comes down. It is easy to injury root that the Unutilized fertilizers increase nutrient concentration of soil because Utilization rate of fertilizers is low.

(3) Avoid fertilizing in hot day. It is easy to cause plants metabolism disorders afer fertilizing in hot day, resulting in foliage wilting and flowers withering.

That's the first thing I thought too, but I have had a Texas Star hibiscus that looks very much like that. Everyone looked at me kind of funny when I took them into to the garden and it was right by the gate.
