Some of you may know that I've tried 3 times to have a speckle sussex chicken. First chick got caught underneath the chicken wire panel that separates them from the rest of the hens. The second one was taken by a raccoon when the automated chicken door didn't close and the third one turned into a roo. Well today I bought another one! I want one sooo badly. I also got a silver laced wyndotte, and a red sex link. I got talked into the sex link instead of a buff orphington. I kind of regret that a little. They are 3 weeks old so hopefully in 2 weeks they will go out.

I am finallly able to post pictures by myself with no probems! I just hope I remember how to in the future.

Orps like to brood, so you'll be out of eggs for most of the year with one of them.

Thistle, right now I have 4 but once I integrate these I will get rid of my barred rock. I'm not happy with her and her eggs are small.

secuono, that's what influenced me to go with the red sex link. I had a buff once that went broody every 6 weeks! Once a year, I don't mind but that often was too much, especially when I had to separate each time in the coop.

I have a funny story to tell you guys. You should have seen my husband's face when I told him the breeds. All he said was one word, "sex"? His look was priceless. :D Of course, I had to explain why they were named that.

You're going to love that Sussex. Mine, with the one Marans, follow me around the yard, and talk a lot. The Marans honks like a goose.

We also have new chicks, 7 total all hatched out by 3 turkey hens, in just one nest.
Not sure how many are chickens and how many are turkeys as the chickens would add to the clutch of eggs as if it were their nest.
Our chickens are aracaunas and 2 of the chicks are dark in color but the rest could go either way.
They look to be still on about a dozen eggs, no telling how many chicks we'll end up with!!!

baymule, those are the reasons the salesgal used to convince me. I just think the orps might be prettier.

dickiebird, glad baymule explained it and I didn't have to. Although that's what I said to my husband.

Mary I had 4 sex links, I had wanted batams. The farmer asked what I wanted in a chicken, I said friendly he said forget batams go with sex link. I am glad i listened to him they where the nicest birds. One would follow me around like a puppy. They eached layed a egg a day and never missed. Even all winter long with no light in coop, they just never stopped. And redheads are pretty!!!
