i found one tomato worm so far on the 9 plants we have. it looked like there were one or two more worms but as of yet i have not seen any more damage or worms when i check in the morning so either they are gone or just waiting for another day to start munching again. perhaps some critter is eating them as that can happen too or they are done and have gone into the ground already. can't always tell what is going on so you have to guess and wonder - which is a good thing for some of us...

And here I bought a multitude of cherry tomatoes at the farmers market 2 days ago, thinking that my own would not ripen for at least a week. Went out to water the plants today and found this:

today i got out for the first major round of tomato picking. not going to be a huge crop this season - i'm guessing half or less of normal (which will still be plenty).

i was thinking there might be a few buckets of tomatoes ready with some of them being damaged by critters or rejects (a bucket and a half buried in another garden). i ended up with five more buckets of tomatoes and probably four buckets of those will be edible or canned - the rest were green enough they can wait a while.
