Tree with Leaves on Thorns

I'm near DFW texas. I have another one I can't figure out.

Tree is approx 20ft tall. The branches have thorns and the thorns have leaves growing off them.

Ok. Just going by your pix. See small stems and not thorns with leaves.

My hands confirm they are thorns. I will try and get better pictures. I have postively ID honey locust and black locust on property. Their leaves are different.

Looks to be many different types. Do you get the red berries?

The thorny trees that immediately come to mind for your area are mesquite, hawthorne, or locust. None of those look right. Then I thought of mock orange. Does that fit?

Good site on different Hawthorn trees. Will have to go looking to see if they come this far north.
