We did several late plantings of green beans too, and it was a good strategy. They're producing like crazy. Dinner tonight included tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden, grilled chicken thighs, and Cantare green beans. The beans were sown on July 20th!

We finished a lunch with the Snap Peas. The seed for them was sown at the end of July. Often, they won't have time for development of pods but they were successful this year! So nice to have :). When they or the Snow Peas cannot accomplish producing a crop of pods, there is the opportunity to have the tendrils, at least. Yes, the vines can survive a frost but growth slows and colder weather sets in. That's it for the growing season.

The slicing tomatoes are back to ripening on the vine. We have already found use for 2 ripe ones this week and these will be fully ripe over the next few days. I set the largest one on the scale and it was 20 ounces. The earliest ones in 2025 had a 28 ounce tomato. Good to have them back to ripening so that the harvest of green ones won't be overwhelming. I have found that keeping some in the cooler garage helps with spacing the ripening out a little rather than piling them all in the kitchen.

The cherries are the Super Sweet 100's from the single plant we found when DW panicked over the Large Red Cherries not•looking•anything•like they have in past years. Then, those fully ripened and she was happy :). Those and the Jelly Beans haven't really had any problems providing a steady supply of ripe fruit.

Keeping up with the cucumbers and bok choy ;). Freezing lots of peppers and green beans :).

Rhubarb Strawberry Pie. The cornstarch/tapioca was balanced right on these three pies and a slice makes a tasty second breakfast :).

Zucchini Bread. Little olde lady that we take some to each year claims that they are the best which, of course, is pleasing to hear. The only way I, personally, enjoy zucchini ;).

Late bok choy planting was started a little bit early this year. Anticipation of the normal wasn't the best idea for this above normal, warm September. The green amaranth is blooming. I should take a picture of the one plant remaining from the Summer harvest. It looks so much like redroot pigweed that it's funny. Tastes better and more tender than its close cousin :D.

Thunderous harvest of green beans from return of the early crop and a continuing late planting. And, Other Things from the Garden!
Is it too late to harvest rhubarb? I have two very large plants.
