What Are You Planting Today, This Week, This Month?

Hey, it's SPRING!!!!! Last week I started (indoors) my broccoli, cauliflower and leeks. This week I did the peppers (sweet and hot). This weekend, we put in the lettuce, spinach, beets, peas, radishes, scallions, and bok choy. I never grew the last two before, it's this year's adventure!

Two days after planting, my broccoli and cauliflower were up, and on the third day the leeks peeked out. The peppers are on top of the grow light to warm the soil, so I hope to see them soon.

My herbs are greening up in the raised bed along the south wall of the house, the rhubarb I planted last fall is up and looking very happy.

Life is good!!

My boyfriend bought me an apple tree today, hope to get it in tomorrow. When i worked at an orchard I loved the Winesap apple, they close up a while back and you cant buy them at the grocery. Lowes was $4 cheaper than Home Depot and a much better looking tree.

It is warm and finally NO Snow in our forcast (this week anyway) . Yesterday peas went in and worked in the greenhouse. Today potatoes and beets are going in and tomatoes are going to spend the day in the greenhouse, still need to finish the ends this weekend then they can stay out, will probably put in cabbage and brussels sprouts also. Chamomile seed will also go in. Also need to start "hardening" off my last batch of baby chicks so they will have a visit in the baby pen today Gee sun's up I better get a move on :coolsun Have a great day everybody :rainbow-sun

Hi Cogirl,
So glad the snow has gone away at long last & you have sunshine :coolsun The weather is great over here, well in the south, at least & I have been out in the garden all morning. I've taken the rigid covers & sheets of glass off my three raised beds & replaced them with white floating fleece over arches. This is to keep my chickens off the peas & beans (bush, broad & runners so far). I work on the principal of what they can't see they don't eat The trouble is that they are incredibly nosey & they almost never leave my side. Eventually, as the peas & beans grow taller & the nights warmer I will put fleece walls up round the beds & leave the tops open.

:bee I've noticed that there are many more bees about this year -- very good news -- the more the merrier as far as I am concerned :bee :bee :bee All of my fruit trees are in blossom & they are all doing their job with vigor :bee :bee :bee

All the other veg is inside at the moment but I'll start transferring them into larger modules & putting them under the glass & plastic sheets in a make-shift cold frame. I couldn't believe just how quickly they came up. My courgettes have gone from seed to 6" high in 4 days The only seeds that haven't shown are the peppers! Do these usually take a longer time???? I have never grown them before. I have them on a heating mat at the right temperature. I've sown several varieties.... Any advice would be welcome, please.

Now I've had my sandwich, cup of tea & my TEG fix, I'm off back into the garden to play in the dirt :weight :tools :watering

COgirl sooo glad you are able to start getting your plants out.

Hatie sounds like you're having a Blooming Good time Sorry just had to say it Yes the more :bee :bee :bee :bee the better last growing season we saw more bees than we had for a few years I hope we see double or triple the numbers this year.
As far as peppers I usually don't see them sprout till after my tomatoes have came up. I usually start them at the same time. I keep them in a warmer area also. Just slower at germinating I guess.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful gardening day. I will do more transplanting tonight after dinner. Have so much to still do to be ready for opening on May 9th.

Thanks for the reassurance about my peppers I guess I'm just impatient now the sun has arrived -- It's been wonderful the last few days. The kind of weather you dream of all through the cold & dark of winter I have been outside most of the day

Finally I managed to get all my statues in to position round the pond :weight They were pretty heavy but I was very careful !!! :weight I feel so good about the space now & I am moving outwards from that area try to improve as I go along. I'm also getting stronger (& thinner) as I work along. The dreaded nettles are gradually disappearing but the ones that are still there get larger...!!! I hope by the end of this week to take some photos. I can't cope with the camera so a friend is going to show me how to use it & couple it up to my laptop etc.

I sowed my sweetcorn today in modules. I'll start thoso inside along with all the other veggies. I have some flower seeds inside -- Cerinthe -- do you know them? I love them if you don't know them look them up I'm sure you will love them as much as I do

Oh my goodness I'm just bringing my day of gardening to a close and I'm done for .

Hattie everything karanleaf said about the peppers is true for me also. This is the first year I started from seed and they are so very slow... I ended up putting a heat lamp in the room, one of the red ones and that finally got them to sprout, but they are so slow to grow. I have always put my peppers (store bought) in walls o water and kept them there all season, they seem to love keeping their toesies warm .

Got my taters in, cranberry reds, all blues and yukon, golden and red beets, red cabbage, brussels sprouts and 35 garlic starts with about another 25 to get in tomorrow, then in about 2 weeks all the warm weather crops should be able to go in. Got the soil amendments done in the greenhouse and had the last batch of chicks out for the first time today and they loved it.

I have a lot of Russian Sage on the property and the bees LOVE it the sage literally hums with all the bees on it in the summer, I love to see them.

Good news for you on Earth Day, :rainbow-sun I've located a company that sells Cerinthe seeds in the US.

They are called Whatcom Seed Company & you find them at seedrack.com. They are in Oregon. Look up Cerinthe major purpurescens / "Blue Shrimp Plant" and a packet (10 seeds) costs $3.84. That is more expensive than here I pay because there are lots more seeds in the package. Still the great thing is you only ever have to buy one packet as you save the seeds at the end of summer !
