What could be better???

Mine is a Foodsaver V2220. Occasionally I’ll lose a seal but it is pretty rare. I’m more likely to poke a hole through the plastic digging through stuff than have the seal itself fail.

The biggest operator error I have is not getting the sealing area dry and clean. I wipe it down really well, especially inside the bag before I try to seal. I have been known to seal and end twice it I am not sure I got a good one.

That vacuum will pull any moisture out of the food and into the seal area, so I usually freeze the stuff in the bag overnight, then seal it the next day. My biggest operator error with that is remembering to seal it the next day.

Thank you. I will start looking around for some. I imagine they will be going on sale around here soon.
We are so ahead of the rest of the country in garden produce.- Although, I did have to contact K-mart and let them know that when the rest of the country cans... we are so over it
(That and bathing suits, I can get a heavy jacket in August, but not a bathing suit.)

Excellent advice!

We truly enjoyed the fruits of our labor tonight... What could be better?

Enjoying the fruits of your labor while watching the evening news showing frantic people, the day before a snowstorm, scrambling at the grocery store hoping to get tonight's meal before the shelves are bare. :D

Ridgerunner- I love making soup from my freezer camp chickens...I have tried to freeze some of the cooked meat, as you suggest. It seems to get freezer burned awfully quick? I haven't canned soup yet. That is definitely on my to do list. Your "meal for two" sounds perfect!

If your cooked chicken will be going to soup, it will freeze better if you freeze it in some stock or broth. Just enough to cover the meat will keep the meat from losing moisture.

Lavender2, I like that idea! Even if it isn't going in soup- you could pour the broth off...I do have a vacuum packer, but it is kind of pain to use for small amounts. Freezing in broth solves the problem!
