My 30 minutes of exercise today was trying to level a step in the garden. After laying out some bricks and making use of them for 3 years, a tree root began pushing up from below. It's from a tree that the neighbor had taken out several years ago. Shoots continued to show up in her yard so I thought that this root might be alive. Digging out around it and beating on it with the pulaski didn't show that there was any life to it. Besides, that old pulaski was so dull that it was real work. Finally, that step was a bit low ;). I moved some dirt under them and re-leveled the bricks.

The root showed up as the ground froze in early Winter. I think that it may have just been the frozen soil lifting it. Also, I don't want to use the sharp axe on a root in the ground. Over the years, I have had little use for the pulaski but, maybe it will need to be sharpened. File that under "maybe."

Pruned the young peach trees. It's always somewhat difficult for me to stop pruning at the rule-of-thumb 1/3 of branches and no more. Always thinking that I will do this or that next year. Hopefully, a good harvest will come first.

It's my usual time to do that but, this year, buds are forming. Likely, I am about 2 weeks late in 2026.
