What Did You Do In The Garden?

Do you ride your horses often?
Not during the winters it’s to cold and slippery since I don’t shoe them during winters for a number of reasons. . During summers sometimes they are old 27 years to 32 years just keep hoves clipped . We do soft ground work to keep in shape. Actually we are all old… 🙃

Also pulled up cardboard on garden paths . Mostly buzy using the leaf blower to remove yellow pollen that’s is covering everything that doesn’t move. It’s that time of year.
Pic of natures pollen machines.

I timed the horses eating and rotated pastures while feeding fresh green grass , as I always worry about my horses foundering. The vet recommended special feed made for horses mixed in with beet grain, has a lot less sugar, and also to soak the grass hay in water a few minutes before feeding. Less the sugar the better.
My Inner Sanctum, fenced in area in front of my barn, isn't very large AND my horses have spent several weeks nibbling the edges of it AND the north pasture. I let them have it for 4 hrs this afternoon, when the sugars are lower. No sense gambling with grass founder, which is still Founder. My Vet has to make trips out to give shots to counteract this every Spring, but Not with mine.

Leaf blower is buzzy today… Spent quite awhile rounding up and blowing out the pink snow flakes from the cherry blossom blooms. Not to mention the Pollen Palooza ,,, yellow pollen covers everything that doesn’t move. The combination is a huge dust bowl scattering of yellow and pink. Aaashewww. 🙃

The PNW is still in the middle of a winter blast. Rain, snow, hail, wind… where it stop nobody knows… trees are down , power outages in the entire region . When the sun ..that’s referred to as a UFO in this region pops out I race out and check for damage. So far so good. All is starting to quiet down except for the occasional tiny hail that shreds the deciduous tree leaves.

It’s pretty bad outside when the dogs refuse to go out… At least all the rain has washed off most of the sticky pollen. I could plant a garden on the black top driveway. It’s so full of pollen and debris from the random pop up storms.

Next … power washing.. as soon as it warms up . UGH….which won’t be at least until the end of June… Tis the season for planting and no place left for a single plant… Famous last words… 🙃😉

Finally got the last of the broad beans in today. Should have done it weeks ago but the rain just would not let up. Ground was still pretty heavy but they went in alright. Also spotted the first aphids of the year on the overwintered ones, so that's fun.

I mowed bc all of the dandelion stalks were staring at me!
Gotta pack for my mini vacation, BUT, I staged my 9' x 11' camo tarp right next to where it's gonna live this summer, along with 8 bricks.
I should add that many years ago, there was deconstruction close to my house and a pile a bricks and I asked if I could have them. I have kept them piled up in the back of the house with an old plastic tablecloth covering them
mostly bc sometimes I need a brick and it's winter and icy.
Next week I need to lop off some saplings there, then spread out the tarp, secure it with bricks and start staging the tree of paradise cuttings. I don't want to keep repeatedly unlocking the north pasture street fence to only dump ONE load. I prefer to put all cuttings HERE. It's probably a 20 minute job, but it's for next week, and I am Sure I will use it all summer AND not have a weedfest in this weedy corner of the yard.
OH! I also let the ponies mow the Inner Sanctum all afternoon.

Got dandies too they are everywhere… get ‘em down before they set seed. Ya know what they say about dandelion’s their roots are deep and good to break up hard pack soil. Of course the horses, deer and other critters luv them too. I’m waiting for it to dry out to spray weeds so many weeds are beginning to taking over several areas. Way to many to pull…

I'd like to live in-between you guys and come harvest your dandelions! I love to make tea from the flowers and use the leaves in spicy salads! Dandelions have many health benefits too! I've even used the root to make bitters!
