Looks solid to me. With your bargaining skills you could probably get it for $200.

His story is correct, it is a Ben Hur trailer, built quite nice.
I have one from about 1950.
I don't think they were made as dump trailers but it was probably converted.
Being it's in NY the asking price is about right.

You would need quite a bit of wiggle room for me. There are lots of used trailers and with a good paint job they would match the truck. I'm not sure of the condition under all that rust.

Ditto, what the major said. That goes for structural underside metals as well. I suppose it was not used all that much on salted, winter roads, but you want to be sure.
