looks perhaps like a soil problem. for starting seeds you want a generally neutral medium and if you're having difficulties that could be the first thing to change. try a known sterile seed starting mix if you haven't been using one already. sorry to see the plants not make it. but glad to see you learning and trying. :)

Do you recommend a certain brand? We just got some cheap seed starter soil. All of my okra died. I'm not starting any more seeds. I'll just wait until next spring.

no, i don't have any recent knowledge of what is usually available at the stores - i direct sow most of the gardens i plant. our tiny house doesn't have much space i can use for starting seedlings.

Thats what I usually do. I just didn't think anything would want to sprout with the temperatures (plus I dont have the time to constantly water) and I wanted to try something new.

Well, they all died. But, I'm trying again with something a little different. I clipped 5 stems off of my rose bushes. Three from a pretty one and 2 from a not so pretty one. I also planted 3 Apple seeds from a store bought gala apple (for fun). I am trying multiple methods for the clippings. From the pretty busy, one is in water, one is in plain dirt, and one was dipped in honey then inthe dirt. My dirt is Sandy. I have the clippings covered to where they can get sun, but maintain moisture.

This is very late to start your garden. This week you may even get a freeze.
I would look into starting onions, maybe some lettuce or spinach. All of your sprouts were for warm weather crops, which YOU can start in March for next year's garden.

When I started them (months ago) I knew that if I got them to sprout, they wouldnt produce for very long. These rose bush clippings, if I can get them to grow, are for my grandma. I want to give them to her as an early Christmas present.

Also, has anybody ever planted gala apple seeds? I know they wont be gala apples, but does anybody know what kind of apple it may produce? Should I post a seperate thread?
