What's cooking and what recipe do you have to share today

New moms will appreciate anything homecooked. I would make her something and just knock on the door and hand it to her.

That's my intention. When I know she's there. She was with a midwife yesterday at their clinic.
I have a nice free-range chicken to roast in the next couple of days.
 
we've not been doing anything fancy recently. the past few days Mom's made some cheesy potatoes using a recipe from a SIL but i'm pretty sure there are plenty of recipes out there already and it's only a few ingredients. i just had some for dinner with some tomatoes and macaroni underneath.

I finally caught up with her. She was really pleased.
At the time I caught her, she had just got back form taking her son too infant school, and more than ready to enjoy her chicken with mixed vegetables dinner, in peace.
 
I have a few sticks of rhubarb, my friend gave me a tub of blackberries and 3 tubs of figs.
Tomorrow I will use all 3 fruits and make a couple of crumbles. One to eat this week and one for the freezer.

The recommended daily intake from the Dietary Guidelines for Americans is 2,300 mg! Whoa. And, we consume more than that ... Many of us have high blood pressure, even kids! Want to cut down and still enjoy your meals?

DW has an important need to and so our combined, home diet reflects that. I just had toast for breakfast and the lingering impression I have is the salt in the bread. 🤔

Here are some ways that I limit salt in stir-fry vegetables and DW goes further by often not using some so they are often at-the-table for me.

First of all the Mrs Dash, with zero added salt. Important to me is Maggi sauce. I think that most Americans are not familiar with this one. Do you like soy sauce on some occasions? You might like Maggi more often. Look at your soy sauce and the ingredients may well note wheat. Well, Maggi is wheat with no soy. It tastes much the same as the Kikkoman (sodium 920 mg/Tablespoon). Maggi has 440 mg per 1 teaspoon. Both add flavor and are significant lower sodium than salt. Made by Nestles and sold worldwide, Maggi.

Add some pronounced flavor with the salt / consume less salt.

I must have known this, bc I never add salt to anything purposefully, and you won't find me salting my food with a shaker. DD's like to call this type of talk "virtue signaling," but it is just my evolution, and taste preference.
I DO know that I can season my broths with lots of flavors from herbs, onions, garlic and vegetables. Things like onions are carrots will Dissolve in the broth if you cook them long enough.
Recently Eldest DD (Chef) asked me to make beef broth with the leftover store bought dill so that she can use it this Fall for our next Borscht.
I guess the only food that I make deliberately with salt is a pie crust.
 
i don't usually put salt on most foods, but once in a while i do like garlic salt or mushroom flavored soy sauce (1440 mg per tablespoon) but it does depend upon what i'm cooking. we always buy butter that has salt in it - i'm pretty sure that is where i get most of my salt from.

the salt shaker and pepper grinder set that i have is so rarely used the i've probably refilled the salt shaker once or twice in 20yrs and the peppercorns once.
