When TV Was Free

Our old behemonth TV died some 6 years ago. My husband loves his TV, so I went out and bought him a Sharp Aquos 60" flatscreen, Blueray, Bose speakers, a fake fireplace console to set it all on. He was blown away. He never asks for anything and he deserved it. We still watch it.

It had to do with the type of TV that you had if I remember right.
 
i cut the cable back in 2013 when my dh had his 1st stroke & i was out of work. we already had been paying for Netflix but bought a Roku & that was the end of paying for Direct TV & cable. now i get unyielding mail asking us to come back. NOPE! ain't going there again if i can help it!

i do remember when we had a big floor tv that was more like furniture than they are a part of the wall today. had a box for the cable on the top that you had to push in buttons to get the next channel. mostly Boston or up in Portland, ME were where the channels came from. UNH has the PBS station so grew up watching a lot of that.

Those things like Roku use the internet to watch TV don't they? I see ads for them and just ignore since I have almost zero internet signal at home.
 
yep. we only pay to have the internet-DSL modem for under $40/month from the phone company. we also got rid of the land line phone & each have a cell phone at $12.50/month per phone. i figured since i work all day long i'm never really at home so why bother with a land line.

with Roku & some of the other streaming options out there, there's a lot of free channels to use. just have to pay for any pro sports channels if you really think you need them. most of the time my dh learns where to stream them online for free. my parents have an antenna they can remotely control inside the house to point in any direction. they point it to the northeast towards Portland, ME for the best free channels.

I refuse to have a TV in the bedroom. And the kitchen? What, gather around the kitchen island and watch TV? Hey, this is the DoubleWide Diva here and we have our big TV in the living room and recliners to slouch back in and even the sofa has recliners on each end. Decorating mistake? Hell, my whole house is a decorating mistake! :thumbsup
