Does the guy next door make Beer?
Could it be someone near you growing Hops?
Could they be collecting cans in there side yard?
Gosh I can think of a million reasons.
Is the fella next door running a secret club in the garage?
His Beer tap drain running towards you place.

Hey there,

Trust your nose. Most likely you are smelling a bloom of yeast or something fermenting. It could indicate an imbalance or the natural result of a change in ph. Could be something that occurs all the time, year to year, when the changes in the air are as they are right now.

I think a sour smell would be more alarming, or a rotten smell. If you notice the birds walking around a bit in a stupor they might be drunk from some 'end of the season' fruit and their droppings are a bit 'beer-like'.

I would watch and smell. Time might lend an answer. Wouldn't it be funny if suddenly one day soon the entire yards are loaded with mushrooms, and you were smelling the processes underground.

Who knows...You could call the local News and get them involved. They are always looking for local stories to report and figure out. Everyone loves a Mystery and then the word will go out locally and someone may be able to shed light.

I remember having an oak tree that leaked sap from a root that was above ground.. this was as the sap went down to the roots and it was dropping leaves for fall... the smell sure got your attention, some folks might think it smelled like beer.

the flowers/fruits of certain plants can give off offensive, rancid odors like that. one that comes to mind is the female Ginkgo tree.
